Minus One Fast Experiment
For the month of May, I’ve decided to sacrifice the dinner I usually take and, instead, use the hour for meditation and reflection. Why? I want to know what it feels like to go to bed hungry each day. I explain this commitment in the above video, which was recorded on the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, India.
The experiment is mainly being inspired by the children the Malezi School (a to be primary school in a Nairobi slum I’m involved with) will benefit. The kids who come from this slum, called Kitui Ndogo, are amongst the poorest of the poor and eat only once or twice in a day, some even have to scavenge for food from local dumpsters.
I want to try and get that, what it's like to be in those shoes, particularly going to bed hungry every night. I also think making a connection with the project in this way will somehow help our effort to bring it into being.
As I mentioned in the video, I've also committed to writing a daily missive after each period of meditation on this page. Realizations. Insights. Challenges. Etc.
Those daily entries were deleted but a concluding update about the experience is here.
